Drones have become an indispensable tool for the Iraqi army in their offensive against Islamic State militants in Mosul.

Members of the Federal Police say they have used drones in monitoring ISIS (ISIL, IS, Daesh) locations and pin-pointing targets.

"Our aim is to follow the enemy targets and monitor their actions at all times, night and day," said Captain Haidar Abdelmahdi.

The militants also use the unmanned aerial vehicles to locate army position.

The second phase of the Mosul offensive was launched last week following weeks of deadlock.

Islamic State has been pushed out of several more areas despite fierce resistance.
