Alalalm - Syria
The last terrorists and theire families were bussed out of eastern Aleppo late on Thursday, sealing the end of the militants most important stronghold.
The evacuations ended a violemt chapter in Syria's nearly six-year war, allowing President Bashar Assad to regain full authority over the country's largest city for the first time in four years.
The announcement was made via an army statement broadcast on Syrian state TV shortly after the last four buses carrying militants left through the Ramousseh crossing and army Western Aleppo erupted in heavy celebratory gunfire, with Syrian TV showing soldiers and civilians shouting "Aleppo, Aleppo!" and "God, Syria and Bashar only!"
For Syria's opposition, it was a crushing defeat.
The ancient city had been divided into rebel and government parts since 2012, when terrorist from the countryside swept in and took hold of eastern districts. That set the stage for more than four years of brutal fighting that laid waste to those neighborhoods.
