ALALAM – Syria
"The Syrian government forces and their popular allies have completed the liberation of Aleppo from terrorists. As a result of the offensive the terrorists were driven out from all quarters that were under their control. At least 900 fighters were eliminated by the Syria army during the operation, and a huge volume of heavy weapons and military equipment was destroyed," the Russian General Staff said in a statement, Ria Novosti reported.
The general staff stressed that the Russian combat planes have not carried out missions around Aleppo since October 18.
Over 3000 militants have voluntarily left the Syrian city of Aleppo, about half of them have been pardoned, Lt. Gen. Viktor Poznikhir, the first deputy chief of the Main Operational Directorate of the Russian General Staff, said Thursday.
"A total of 3033 militants have voluntarily left Aleppo, 1524 of them have been pardoned and let go, checks are ongoing in regard to others," Poznikhir told reporters.
The number excludes the 5000 militants that started evacuating Eastern Aleppo on Thursday.
He said more than 1000 people were transported through the humanitarian corridor from the neighborhood of Salaheddin in Aleppo in the direction of Al-Rashidin.
Poznikhir also said that over 108000 civilians, including more than 47000 children, had been taken to safe areas of Aleppo via humanitarian corridors.
"Overall, 108076 civilians, including 47183 children, were taken via the organized humanitarian corridors to safe city areas," he said, FNA reported.
