Syrian Gov't Starts Investigation over 1000 Militants Requested Amnesty in Damascus

Media sources said on Tuesday that relevant government officials have started study amnesty requests of over 1000 militants in a small town in the Western Damascus province.

The Arabic language al-Mayadeen news network reported that over 1000 amnesty application forms of militants, who have laid down arms in the town of Kanakar, are under investigation by relevant officials.

In the meantime, media activists said for their part that application requests of 1500 militants in Kanakar have been studied, adding that government organizations are to enter Kanakar later today to activate civil services and rebuild infrastructures of the town.

The Russian Peace Coordination Center in Syria announced on Monday that militants in two more regions laid down arms and joined the peace agreement with Damascus.

"Representatives of militants in two more regions in Lattakia province inked peace agreement with the Syrian government," the Russian Center said in a statement.

"Total number of cities, towns and regions that have thus far joined the nationwide reconciliation plan now stands at 1045," the center added.

"Peace negotiations with field commanders of opposition groups in the provinces of Aleppo, Damascus, Homs, Hama and Quneitra are still underway," the center continued, FNA reported.
