8 More Medals: Iran Receives in Asian Junior Karate Championship

Young Iranian male and female karate practitioners have picked up eight more medals, including two gold ones, at the 15th edition of Asian Karate Federation (AKF) Cadet, Junior & U-21 Championship in Indonesia.

On Saturday, Iran’s Arash Alinejad overwhelmed his Japanese, Sri Lankan and Indonesian opponents in the march to the final fight of the male junior minus 75-kilogram kumite division at the Celebes Convention Center in the southern Indonesian city of Makassar.

He prevailed over a Chinese karateka in the last competition and clinched the gold.

Mohammad Reza Gilanpour chalked up a 6-1 win over his Saudi rival in the final encounter of the male junior minus 84-kilogram kumite class and was awarded the gold medal.

The Iranian team, comprising Mohammad Javad Sharifiyan, Behnam Barati and Danial Nawab Safavi, also claimed the third spot and received a bronze medal in the male junior kata class.

The Iranian girls’ outfit, which had Setareh Khakpour, Arezou Lonji and Mohaddeseh Naeji in lineup, also settled for the bronze medal in the kata category.

Majid Nikouhemmat, Hamid Reza Nejati, Mojtaba Mohammadi and Mehdi Ghararizadeh also picked up bronze medals in the male junior over 76-kilogram, minus 76-kilogram, minus 61-kilogram and over 84-kilogram kumite third-place contests, Press TV reported.
