The mortar shells struck al-Basel Hospital and Fawzi al-Jesri School at Aleppo city’s al-Shahba neighborhood. The assaults killed 10 people, including seven children, and injured 10 others, Syrian media reported Sunday.

Two other Syrians were also killed and five others sustained injuries in mortar fire at the Mokambou district of Aleppo Province.

Five more Syrian students further lost their lives and 10 others were wounded in similar attacks outside a school in Aleppo’s Furqan neighborhood.

Meanwhile, a mortar shell hit a sports college in Aleppo’s Sulaymaniyah, injuring several female students.

Additionally, ISIS launched similar mortar attacks on homes in the city of Deir Ezzor, injuring a number of Syrian citizens.

This is while the Syrian army soldiers and their allies are advancing in southern Aleppo and are engaged in fierce clashes with terrorists.

Separately, Lebanon’s al-Ahed news website reported fighting in the Hananu neighborhood of eastern Aleppo, adding that the Syrian forces managed to thwart an attempted Daesh attack around Deir Ezzor airport.

Another Lebanese news website, al-Manar, also reported that several militants were slain in Syrian army operations in the city of Daraa.

Since March 2011, Syria has been hit by deadly foreign-sponsored militancy, with the situation remaining tense in Aleppo as the city is divided between government forces in the west and foreign-backed terrorists in the east.

United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura arrived in the Syrian capital city of Damascus on Sunday for talks with Foreign Minister Walid Muallem, Press TV reported.
