The ISIS (Daesh / ISIL) Takfiri terrorists have fired mortars containing chemical agents against civilian areas south of the Iraqi city of Mosul. The attack comes days after New York-based Human Rights Watch warned against the use of toxic chemicals by Daesh in areas near Mosul in an attempt to keep its last stronghold in the war-torn country as Iraqi forces press ahead with a large-scale operation to liberate the northern city.
The ISIS terrorists are trying to contain the offensives in Mosul by using the chemical weapons supplied by the West and its regional allies, says a political commentator.
“I think earlier it was very clear that the Western countries and Turkey, with the support of Saudi Arabia, were supplying the terrorists with poison gas in order to implicate the Syrian government,” James Petras told Press TV in an interview on Sunday.
“What has happened is the oversupply of these weapons ... now being used by ISIS (Daesh) to try to contain the offensives in Mosul and Aleppo,” he added.
He also stated that the Daesh terrorist group has tried to blame the Damascus government for conducting chemical attacks in the past, but now it has suspended that tactic in order to further its aims in both Iraq and Syria.
Petras further argued the United States has systematically violated any international agreements on banned weapons in order to "foist" the issue on any adversary it wants.
