The Syrian foreign Minister Walid Muallem told reporters in comments referring to the critical role of the ongoing battle in Aleppo as he answered a question about what might happen in case of success of government forces in this area, True News reported.
“If we succeed, having won Aleppo, which I’m sure we will do, the West will have to rethink my mistake,” said the foreign Minister, referring to the position of Western countries for five years, insisting on the resignation of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
The comment by the Syrian Foreign minister came as western media are now conceding the fact that few predicted that the London-educated ophthalmologist, Bashar Assad will remain in the business five years after the beginning of violence in Syria.
“It seems that today he looks stronger than any of the moments of the conflict,” believes the author of a newly-published commentary in the British daily, Telegraph.
In his opinion, if the rest of Aleppo, controlled currently by the terrorists into the hands of government forces, the prolonged presence of Assad in power, “is virtually assured”.
