Iraqi and Kurdish forces continued their advance on Tuesday in a bid to retake Mosul from the Islamic State (ISIS / Daesh / ISIL) group, Al-Alam News Network reports.
They began their offensive, which is expected to take weeks or even months, on Monday.
The president of Iraq’s largely autonomous Kurdish region, Massoud Barzani, said Iraqi Kurdish forces retook 200 square kilometers (80 square miles) from Islamic State (ISIS / Daesh / ISIL) on Monday.
Their operation in Iraq’s second biggest city is being backed by the US-led coalition, AP reported.
