The Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani, in a statement here on Sunday, condemned recent Saudi Arabia-led air strikes on Yemen by American weaponry.

The statement said the US must be held accountable for crimes in Yemen.

Shamkhani described Yemen's attacks on an Emirati military vessel as an indication of safeguarding the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity against an invading country.

He said that Saudi Arabia has targeted a crowded funeral ceremony in the Yemeni capital Sana’a by American weaponry, adding that US must be held accountable for crimes in Yemen.

The western public opinion should be aware of their governments' role in continuing the war.

Shamkhani underscored that the West arms sales to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates play a pivotal role in invading Yemen and massacring innocent people in this Arab country and such measures must be halted.

According to media reports, Saudi warplanes have carried out airstrikes targeting a crowded funeral ceremony for the father of Jalal al-Roweishan, the interior minister in the Yemeni government.

At least 150 people were killed in the assaults. The Saudi jets conducted at least nine airstrikes on Khamis street in southern Sana’a.

The number of casualties is highly likely to rise. Over 500 people have reportedly been injured, IRNA reported.
