Irish naval ship James Joyce located and rescued 265 migrants and recovered five dead bodies from two rubber vessels off the coast of Libya on Wednesday (September 14).

The dead included a heavily pregnant woman.

The Irish Defence Forces said one of the vessels contained 106 migrants, the other 164. Several people needed urgent medical attention. Those rescued received food, water and medical treatment onboard the James Joyce, before being transferred to an Italian naval ship which was due to transfer them to a designated Port of Safety.

The search and rescue operation took place 32 nautical miles northwest of Tripoli, Reuters reported.
