"The ISIL is using new ammunition to target the army-controlled regions and has attacked al-Talae'h military base and al-Joura district with 100 rounds of two-stage rockets from its positions in al-Baqiliya village," Samer al-Khalaf, a media activist in Deir Ezzur, said on Monday.
He added that the rockets blow up first in the sky with a trail of black smoke rising from them and then explode again when hitting the ground targets.
Khalaf said that it is the first time that the ISIL is using such weapons in Deir Ezzur.
The ISIL attacks were launched as the Syrian army inflicted heavy losses on the terrorists in Deir Ezzur province on Sunday, killing several militants and injuring many others.
The army units killed at least 7 ISIL terrorists and destroyed their military vehicle equipped with a 14.5milimeter machine in Tal Brouk, Northwest of Deir Ezzur city.
The Syrian army destroyed the terrorists' weapons and ammunition in the surrounding areas of Panorama to the Southwest of the city of Deir Ezzur.
Also, on Saturday, the Syrian Army troops repelled ISIL's offensives on government forces' positions along the heights near the Eastern city of Deir Ezzur, claiming the lives of at least 165 terrorists.
Syrian soldiers, backed by tribal forces, fended off ISIL's attacks to break through government positions near Brouk heights, leaving at least 165 terrorists dead and many more wounded.
Brouk heights enjoy strategic importance for both the Syrian army and terrorists due to its overlooking advantages over Deir Ezzur city; FNA reported.
