Syrian TV Shows Operation of Capturing Eastern Rebel-Held Part of Aleppo

Syrian state TV aired on Thursday (July 28) images showing abandoned defensive positions along a key supply route into the eastern, rebel-held part of Aleppo, after being recaptured by the Syrian army.

The Syrian army said on Wednesday (July 27) it had cut off all terrorist supply routes into Aleppo's opposition-controlled eastern neighbourhoods.

An advance by pro-government forces around the vital supply route this month enabled them to fire on it at close range, making the battlefront Castello road too deadly to terrorists to use it.

Aleppo, Syria's biggest city before the outbreak of the conflict five years ago, has been divided between government forces and Syrian rebels since the summer of 2012.

Russia has proposed civilians corridors for safe exit of people to leave the battlefield and Syrian President Bashar al Assad has offered an amnesty for syrian rebel there, Reuters repors.

Aleppo’s recapture would mark Syrian Army biggest victory so far in the war against terrorists.

Fighting persists across much of Syria after the failure of diplomatic efforts to end the conflict. The United Nations says it hopes to reconvene peace talks in August.
