The attack happened around 00:30 (04:30 GMT) on Monday at Club Blu, which was reportedly hosting a party for teenagers. Three people have been arrested. The victims were between 12 and 27 years old.
A police statement said injuries “ranged from minor to life-threatening”. Up to four people remain in hospital with serious injuries.
Shots were fired outside in the club’s car park where witnesses described the scene to reporters as a “mad house”. Club Blu released a statement on Facebook expressing its deep sorrow over the incident.
The Florida mass-shooting incident is most likely going to spark a gun-control debate- a measure that the Democrat US president has supported for years against the Republican-led congress to no avail.
Constitutional challenges are the biggest hindrance against such a measure.
