The 18-year-old German-Iranian student opened fire on young people he had lured to a McDonald's restaurant near the Olympic stadium in Munich after hacking a young woman's Facebook account.

Sonobly had sourced an illegal Glock 17 semi-automatic handgun and had amassed more than 300 rounds of ammunition which he carried in his backpack.

The Glock 17 is a favourite weapon of police forces world wide and has a standard 17-round magazine.

In the months before his murder spree, Sonobly spent time researching mass killings. Investigators claimed he was 'obsessed'.

He spent time researching killers who went mass shooting sprees. His Whatsapp profile picture was of Norwegian mass murderer Anders Breivik.

Sonobly hacked the Facebook account of a young woman, Selina Akim, and posted a message offering free food at the McDonald's restaurant near the Olympic stadium at 4pm. 

Facebook said in response: 'Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the horrific attack in Munich on Friday. We are working closely with German law enforcement to assist their investigations.'

A Muslim woman, named only as Lauretta, who was in McDonald's at the the time of the attack told CNN: 'I hear like an alarm and boom, boom, boom ... and he's still killing the children. The children were sitting to eat. They can't run.', Daily Mail reported.
