More than 24 hours have passed since hostage taking in police station of Armenia’s capital city Yerevan, and the armed group is still holding several policemen hostage.

The armed group which seized the police station in Yerevan let one of six hostages go, local media reported on Monday.

Five people, including Armenia's deputy police chief Maj Gen Vardan Egiazaryan and Yerevan's deputy police chief Col Valeri Osipyan, are still held captive.

A group of armed men has seized a police station on the outskirts of Armenia's capital of Yerevan.

According to earlier reports, seven police officers were taken hostage. Later, two hostages have been released by the Armenian Special Forces, according to local media. One police officer has been killed during the hostage situation in Yerevan Capital of Armenia.

The hostage takers told Armenian Member of Parliament Nikol Pashinyan that they also demand the resignation of the Armenia president Serzh Sargsyan.

The statement added that social media rumors that the situation is linked to a start of an unprising are false.

Informed sources told Sputnik that the killed police officer has been identified as Col Artur Vanoyan who served 22 years in Armenia police.

Three more were injured, they have been identified as Col Aram Ovannisyan, Lt Col Grach Hotegyan, Subaltern Gagik Mkrtchyan.

Azerbaijan Fired 450 shots towards Armenian Karabakh Position

Meanwhile “PanARMENIAN.Net” reports that 26 ceasefire violations by the Azerbaijani army were registered along the contact line with Nagorno Karabakh on the night of July 17-18.

Azeri troops, in particular, used various caliber firearms to fire over 450 shots towards the Armenian positions.

Karabakh Defense Army troops continue controlling the situation along the line of contact and protecting their positions.
