The incident took place on May 23 at Sri Lalitha jewelers in Guntur district.

In the now viral CCTV footage, an employee of the jewelry shop is seen offering a piece of fruit to the monkey which sat outside the shop door.

Soon after, the monkey pushed open the door and headed straight for the cash counter.

After sitting for a while on a chair, the monkey pulled out a bundle of currency notes from a drawer and jumped over the counter only to run off with the money.

In the video, an employee is also seen offering a banana to the monkey in a bid to stop him from fleeing, but in vain.

"The monkey was sitting outside the shop and suddenly it came in and sat near the cash counter. It looked here and there for a while and then suddenly took out money from the drawer and ran away. We offered him food but he did not take any," said Ravi, the owner of Sri Lalitha jewelers.

Shop employees said that this was the second time that the simian had visited the shop, however, it had not managed to enter the shop previously.
