US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton are both disliked or even hated by nearly 60 percent of Americans, a new poll has found.

According to the latest NBC News/SurveyMonkey tracking poll which was published on Tuesday, 37 percent of the participants said they “dislike” Clinton while 39 percent had the same feeling about Trump.

This is while 21 percent said they “hate” the former first lady and 24 percent expressed the same sentiment toward the New York businessman.

In terms of support among voters, Clinton led Trump by a small 4-point margin, 47 percent to 43 percent.

The poll’s findings highlight the two candidates’ issue of favorability among voters after another ABC News suggested earlier this week that they were the least popular candidates to ever run for the White House.

Clinton's favorability rating in that poll was only 34 percent with 54 percent of the participants holding unfavorable views about her. For Trump, the favorability rating was even lower at 29 percent, while 58 percent had an unfavorable opinion about him.

A Washington Post/ABC News poll released on Sunday found that 57 percent of American voters had an unfavorable opinion of Clinton and Trump, with 46 percent saying they had a strongly unfavorable opinion of Clinton and 45 percent said the same of Trump.

A majority of voters believe that both frontrunners lack strong moral values and will say anything to get elected, according to another recent poll published by Fox News.

Although projecting Trump as the winner of a hypothetical head-to-head race, the poll found that Clinton had a net negative honesty rating of -35 points. Only 31 percent of the respondents said she was honest, while a record 66 percent said she was not.

Trump did better on that measure, although he was still underwater by 17 points. Forty percent thought he was honest and 57 percent thought otherwise.

A new poll by the Data Targeting revealed that 55 percent of voters preferred a third party candidate in the race, Press tv reported.
