"In a significant development, the Syrian army warded off an attempt by the ISIS terrorists to open their way into areas surrounding Deir Ezzor’s airport, forcing them to retreat after bloody clashes during that imposed heavy casualties on the terrorists," the sources said.
"The terrorists were pushed back by the Syrian troops' timely action and sustained a number of losses and injuries."
In the meantime, the engineering units of the army started defusing roadside bombs and anti-tank mines planted by the terrorists around al-Thayyem oil field and its premises in Deir Ezzor province, according to the sources.
Earlier, military sources said that the Syrian artillery units heavily pounded positions of the ISIS terrorist group in the Western regions of Deir Ezzur province, as they fended off an ISIS offensive on Army positions in the city of Deir Ezzor.
Sources said that the Syrian artillery units severely shelled the militants' positions in al-Thayyem Oil-field's power plant which is still under the control of ISIS terrorists, destroying terrorists' military grid including a Bulldozer, used by the ISIS to erect fortifications in the region.
Reports said three terrorists inside a Bulldozer were killed after the Syrian artillery units manage to trace and hit ISIS's machinery in the region.
Meanwhile, Syrian Army forces repulsed an ISIS assault on their positions in the Hawija Saker (Saker Island) from Harabesh district in Southern Deir Ezzor and killed a number of militants.
"The ISIS terrorists in an attempt to capture the key village of al-Huquf, north of the city of Sweida, attacked army troop's positions in the region, but were pushed back after losing fighters," a military source said; FNA reported.
