The Anbar province head of military operations has said Saturday that the Iraqi Armed Forces have repelled ISIL's assault on army positions East of Ramadi and have killed 17 militants.

"The ISIL militants attacked army troops… in the region of Hamidiyeh East of Ramadi on an international high-speed highway. The forces fended off the attack and killed 17 fighters," Ismayeel Mahlawi told the Alsumaria network according to FNA.
The commander added that the army forces destroyed two terrorist positions and defused 12 explosive devices left by the militants in the region.
Iraqi forces reportedly liberated areas east of Ramadi from ISIL militants in early February, two months after the national army announced it had regained full control of the capital of Anbar.
