Russia has blasted the United States’ rhetoric against it as a mere propaganda campaign, whose contentions Moscow says cannot be factually verified.

“Everything we see is a classic media campaign, propaganda in its purest form,” Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova told Russia Today in an interview, which was published on Wednesday.

“If the United States had some facts, some cards in their hand, they would have already been shown, they would have already been presented to the world. No facts, no information, which could be presented as facts, there are no such things,” she added.

“They (Americans) of course know that we (Russians) are not a threat. Obviously, they have no facts to prove that we are a threat. They just create a feeling of perception of Russia as a threat,” she said.

Russia and the US are locked in their worst post-Cold-War spat, accusing each other of rights violations and pursuing a self-serving agenda in Syria.

The US has taken issue with Russia’s aerial campaign in Syria, saying it targets the “moderate” militants that Washington has been supporting.

Russia says the airstrikes, which began in September 2015 on a request from Damascus, target Takfiri terrorist groups such as Daesh and al-Nusra Front as well as other terrorist outfits. Backed by the Russian air cover, the Syrian army and its allied fighters have cleared many areas of Syria of terrorist presence and encircled terrorists in other parts.

Moscow, on the other hand, casts doubt on efficiency of the US-led so-called anti-Daesh coalition also hitting Syria, which has fallen severely short of routing the terrorists. It has also criticized the coalition for not getting authorization for the bombing campaign from the government in Damascus, Press TV reported.
