At least 30 ISIS militants were killed in the operations, military sources confirmed.
Peshmerga officer Saeed Derki told media that their troops were able to recapture the villages of Merdi, Mahane, Qedimah, Gdelah and Khattab in the Qayyarah subdistrict in Nineveh province.
He said that members of the Mosul Tribal Mobilization Force have supported the Peshmerga in operations in Qayyarah.
“Our forces bombed Daesh strongholds in the area with heavy artillery and mortar fire, destroying several Daesh vehicles and killing dozens of terrorists,” the Peshmerga officer said, using another acronym for ISIS.
“We have collected dead bodies of more than 30 Daesh terrorists after the operations in Qayyarah,” the source reported.
This comes just one day after ISIS militants launched an attack with mortar fire on headquarters of the Kurdish Peshmerga in Khazir district, about 40km east of Mosul in Nineveh province, killing eight Peshmergas and wounding six more.
The Peshmerga army and Iraqi government forces, have recently started an extended military campaign aimed at regaining the city of Mosul, which is deemed the main bastion for ISIS in Iraq.
