Iran and the US have reached a settlement on exchange of a number of prisoners, Justice Department said on Saturday.

Prosecutor Abbas Jaafari told IRNA that four dual nationality Iranian-American prisoners, passing prison terms in Iran, will be exchanged with seven Iranian nationals languishing at the US jails.

The settlement included a clause according to which the US will no longer pursue extradition of 14 Iranians for alleged involvement in purchasing arms from the US to Iran.

“In line with ratifications of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council and the Islamic establishment’s general expediencies, four Iranian prisoners, who hold dual nationality, have been released within the framework of a prisoner swap,” Dolatabadi said on Saturday.

The announcement came as Iran and world powers were expected to finally implement last July's nuclear deal, which will lift international sanctions imposed on the Islamic republic.
