Hundreds of Iranians gathered outside Saudi diplomatic buildings in Tehran and Mashad to protest against Shia cleric execution by Saudi Arabia; MNA reported.
Saudi Arabian Interior Ministry issued a statement on Saturday morning announcing the execution of imprisoned Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr. The news about the execution sparked anger among Muslims across the world including many Iranians.
From the early minutes after the news was published, thousands of messages and pictures were shared on Iranian social media and by the afternoon calls for protests in front of Saudi embassy was shared among many users. While the protest has been planned for Sunday afternoon, many people from all walks of life gathered first in front of Saudi consulate in northeastern city of Mashhad in Khorasan Razavi province. Protesters in Mashhad chanted slogans against the Saudi regime and brought the flag of the building down to show their anger.
A group of Tehran seminary school students have rallied outside Saudi embassy to condemn execution of Sheikh Mohammad Baqir Nimr al-Nimr.
The rallies condemned also the execution of 46 others on Saturday. The crowd was chanting anti-Saudi, anti-Israeli, and anti-American slogans. Saudi Interior Ministry issued a statement to announce the execution of 47 people by the final confirmation of the King Salman of Saudi Arabia. Sheikh Baqir Nimr al-Nimr, the Shia cleric and the religious leader and some other Shia activists are among the executed on Saturday. The Saudi Supreme Court had approved the execution verdict of the preliminary court and King Salman confirmed it and the verdict was enacted; MNA reported.
Executing Shaikh Nimr, the Saudi House proved how savage and anti-humane are they, and they have to wait for consequences, said the student.
Meanwhile, clerics across Iran have voiced their condemnation for Saudi’s oppression of unarmed dissidents and have cancelled all their classes on Sunday.
Execution of Sheikh Nimr in spite of international calls on Riyadh to revoke the death sentence adds to a series of bittering events by Saudis hurting the sentiments and pride of the Iranians including sexual assault on two Iranian teenagers by Jeddah airport security officers as well as the tragedy in Mina during Hajj season which claimed lives of thousands of innocent hajj pilgrims.
