The route which was captured was a conduit for supplies between the two towns, and led through an agricultural area. It was considered the most important supply route for militants in the region.
"The army also seized militants' weapons and ammunition in the clashes," FNA reported.
The Syrian army troops also conducted artillery operations around the city, killing more militants.
Earlier reports suggest that the operation is part of an offensive against the suburb, as the northern part of the town of Darayya was also attacked by Syrian army forces.
