The US Army confirmed that more than a dozen weapons, including six M4 assault rifles and ten handguns, were stolen from an Army Reserve center in Worcester, Massachusetts on Saturday night, Al-Alam News Network reports.
Both the FBI and local police are investigating the break-in at the Lincoln Stoddard Army Reserve Center on Lake Avenue.
“An unidentified male subject is wanted in connection with the theft of a total of 16 weapons,” said Worcester City Manager Edward M. Augustus Jr.
Police are looking for a light-skinned man between 5’7” - 5’10” with a stocky build. He was wearing a white t-shirt and a dark colored vest.
Authorities are also on the lookout for a newer model dark colored BMW hatchback with sport rims.
The break-in occurred between the hours of 6 p.m. Saturday and 1 a.m. Sunday, according to the city manager.
Reports say the suspect went in through the roof and once inside cut a hole in the roof of the vault. The alarm was disabled at the armory due to construction.
Surveillance video shows the man carefully stealing weapon after weapon over a five hour span.
The Worcester Fire Department and Worcester Police Department responded to an 8:30 a.m. Sunday call from a worker reporting smoke and signs of a break-in, Augustus said.
Lt. Col. Tad T. Fichtel said the FBI is leading the investigation and confirmed that 10 9 mm handguns and six 5.56 mm M4 rifles were stolen.
The FBI said there was no indication the weapons stolen were motivated by terrorism.
