Eyewitness video purports to show Russian jets flying over Aleppo and the bombing of a rebel held area of Damascus by the Syrian government, according to reports from activists, Al-Alam News Network reports.
Video uploaded to social media purports to show what is said to be Russian jets flying over Aleppo, followed by large clouds of smoke rising from the ground from what is said to be Russian air strikes according to activists.
The Syrian state news agency said on Monday (October 19) that the rural Aleppo area was one of 49 sites targeted by Russian warplanes, along with rural Damascus, Latakia and Hama.
UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported fresh Russian air strikes on Monday in the southern Aleppo area.
Rami Abdulrahman, head of the Observatory, described the fighting as heavy on Monday (October 19).
The Syrian government dropped 17 bombs on Darya in Damascus on Monday, the Observatory reported.
Amateur video sourced from social media shows what is said to be a Syrian helicopter dropping multiple bombs on Sunday (October 18) and a large explosion and a cloud of white smoke rising afterwards.
The Observatory also said that the Syrian government had dropped bombs on areas in the al-Yarmouk camp and al-Hajarthe al-Aswad neighborhood in Damascus.
Rebels battling the Syrian army and its allies near Aleppo said on Monday they had received new supplies of US made anti-tank missiles from states opposed to President Bashar al-Assad since the start of a major government offensive last week.
