Russia’s Defense Ministry has confirmed that its jets pounded various regions including ISIL-Held City of Palmyra and destroyed 20 tanks and 3 rocket launchers near the city.

"The Russian air force in coordination with the Syrian air force targeted positions held by the ISIL Takfiri terrorist group in and around the city of Palmyra," state television said.

Russia’s Defense Ministry had also confimed that its jets pounded 10 ISIL targets in various regions, and destroyed 20 tanks and 3 rocket launchers near Palmyra in Homs province.

"During the day, Sukhoi-34, Sukhoi-24M and Sukhoi-25 warplanes flew a total of 15 sorties from the Khmeimim airbase. Air strikes were delivered at ten targets of the ISIL group in Syria,” Igor Konashenkov, Russia’s Defense Ministry Spokesman, said in a statement.

"A pair of Su-25Ms (NATO reporting name: Frogfoot) together with an Su-24 (NATO reporting name: Fencer) carried out strikes on two ISIL targets in the Eastern part of Homs province near the city of Tadmur (Palmyra)", Konashenkov said.

"About 20 units of medium T-55 tanks, which were earlier seized by the militants from the Syrian army, have been destroyed in the strikes as well as three multiple rocket launchers," he noted.

A video released by the ministry also showed a strike against an ISIL ammunition depot in Homs. The ministry explained that the bright flashes confirm detonation of munitions caused by direct hits of air bombs and thick smoke provides evidence of fire in the depot.

Russia's upper house of parliament has approved the use of Russia's Air Force in Syria, following a request by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Russia has launched a series of airstrikes across the Arab country Syria since last Wednesday.

Moscow says its strikes have destroyed command centers and arms depots belonging to ISIL.

Head of Russia's upper chamber of parliament said on Tuesday that Moscow will consider extending its airstrikes against terrorist groups in Syria to Iraq if it receives such a request from Baghdad. The Speaker, Valentina Matviyenko, stressed that Russia had so far not received such a request from the Iraqi government; FNA reported.
