Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian voiced the country’s full support for efforts to promote stability in the Middle Eastern countries, Lebanon in particular.
In a Wednesday meeting in the Lebanese capital of Beirut, Amir Abdollahian and Secretary-General of the Lebanese Hezbollah Resistance Movement Seyed Hassan Nasrallah conferred on a host of issues, including the latest developments in the region.
“Iran always backs security and stability in Lebanon and the region,” he stressed, adding that the Islamic Republic attaches great importance to the national unity in the Arab country.
“We support dialogue among the Lebanese,” the Iranian diplomat said.
He also stated that Iran believes foreign intervention only exacerbates the problems in the region.
Nasrallah, for his part, hailed Iran’s contributions to regional security and combatting terrorism and extremism as “very important” and stressed the need for joint efforts by other regional states to restore stability to the region.
Earlier on Tuesday, Amir Abdollahian had met with the United Nations special envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, in Beirut.
The Iranian deputy foreign minister said in that meeting that the role of the Syrian people and government and the serious efforts made by President Bashar al-Assad to combat terrorism should be considered in any plan in the war-stricken country; tasnimnews reported.
