British Embassy in Tehran was reopened today in the presence of the Britain’s Secretary of State Philip Hammond.

Philip Hammond who is leading a political-economic delegation has travelled to Iran to take part in the opening ceremony of the British Embassy which was closed for 4 years.

Expressing happiness about his trip to Iran, the British foreign secretary deemed the event “a historic moment in the Iran-Britain relations” on his twitter.

Along with the reopening of the British Embassy, the Iranian Embassy in London will also reopen in the presence of Iran’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Administrative and Financial Affairs Mehdi Danesh-Yazdi.

However, Iran's deputy foreign minister for European and American Affairs, Majid Takht Ravanchi had said yesterday that, “Iran would not seek promoting the diplomatic relations with the Britain, and current relations would be limited to charge d'affaires level.”

Pointing to the issue of visas by the two countries’ embassies, Takht Ravanchi stated that, “British embassy issues only diplomatic visas and it will start to issue travel and other types of visa only after raising the number of its staff in Tehran; Iran’s embassy in London will act in parallel as well.”
