A powerful explosion jolted downtown Kabul on Saturday, underlining the precarious security situation in the Afghan capital following a recent wave of devastating bombings.

There were no immediate reports of casualties but an AFP photographer saw the mangled wreckage of a burning vehicle at the scene of the blast.
