The Colima volcano in western Mexico spewed two large plumes of ash into the air early on Wednesday.
The second eruption reached two kilometres up into the sky, Mexico's National Coordinator of Civil Protection, Luis Felipe Puente, said on Twitter.
Authorities are maintaining a yellow alert for the area, which means that residents should be ready for a possible evacuation
