Saeed Ohadi told IRNA on Sunday that pilgrims will be sent to Syria after coordination with Syrian officials and obtaining the approval from the Supreme National Security Council.
Ohadi added that a Syrian delegation is set to travel to Tehran in order to explore ways to facilitate the pilgrimage.
Syria is home to several Shia shrines including the mausoleum of Hazrat Zainab (PBUH), the daughter of Imam Ali (PBUH), the first Shia Imam.
Iran banned going on pilgrimage to Syria after foreign-backed terrorists’ waged war against the government and people of Syria in early 2012.
