Ali Akbar Velayati, Iranian Supreme Leader’s top advisor for international affairs, blasts certain undemocratic regional states for using terrorists to damage other nations, Al- Alam News Network reports.

"Certain countries which haven’t experienced the slightest manifestations of democracy claim about Syria, certain Islamic states, legal governments and UN members that their presidents haven’t been democratically elected and democracy havn't been established there," Velayati said, addressing senior police commanders in Tehran on Tuesday.

Stressing that the enemies are not able to eliminate the resistance front in the region, he said, "Their dreams will not come true and their seditious and divisive plots will not yield results in Yemen, Iraq, Lebanon and other countries."

Velayati also lambasted the western states for dividing the terrorist groups into extremists and moderates to find a pretext to equip and train the latter group to kill the people and fight against the legal governments in the region, saying that their rationale is ridiculous.

Syria has been grappling with a deadly crisis since March 2011. The violence fuelled by Takfiri groups has so far claimed the lives of over 230,000 people, according to reports. New figures show that over 76,000 people, including thousands of children, lost their lives in Syria last year.

Over 3.8 million Syrians have left their country since the beginning of the crisis.

According to reports, more than seven million Syrians have become internally displaced.

In December, Syrian Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi said Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Jordan had formed an alliance with Israel in war on Damascus.

Halqi described Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Jordan's role in Syria as not just "unconstructive" but "destructive", and said, "These countries no more see the Zionist regime as their enemy and have entered the war against the Syrian people in an alliance with the regime."

He expressed confidence that the Syrian people and army would soon clean their country from the terrorists, and said, "2015 will be a determining year for Syria."
