Yemen’s Ansarullah fighters and allied military forces have repelled a large-scale attack by the supporters of the fugitive former president on a key airbase in the southwestern Lahij province, Al-Alam News Network reports.

The al-Anad airbase was attacked by militia groups loyal to Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi after being extensively bombed by Saudi warplanes, Yemen's al-Masirah TV reported on Monday.

According to a former regime military commander, several people from both sides have been killed.

Contradictory reports have also surfaced stating that the base has fallen to the militias.

Meanwhile, at least four people were killed during a Saudi airstrike on thenorthern province of Jawf.

Multiple raids were also carried out against areas in the capital Sana'a.

Saudi Arabia has been pounding Yemen since March 26 – without a UN mandate – in a bid to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and to restore power to Hadi, a staunch ally of Riyadh.

According to the United Nations, the conflict in the impoverished country has killed nearly 4,000 people, nearly half of them civilians, since late March.
