Iran's Army plans to stage 6 military drills until the end of the current Iranian year (March 19, 2016), Commander of Army Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan unveiled; Al-Alam News Network reports.

Speaking to reporters in Tehran on Tuesday, the ranking officer said the war games will be staged in different parts of the country, mostly in southeast, northwest and southwest.

Each one of the planned exercises is going to focus on a specific military expertise, the commander noted.

Pourdastan said one of the drills will be performed jointly with forces from the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) and Basij.

Over the past few years, Iran has held several military drills to enhance the defense capabilities of its armed forces and to test modern military tactics and equipment.

Iran has repeatedly stated that its military might poses no threat to other countries, reiterating that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.

Tehran maintains that the maneuvers are defensive in nature and meant to convey a message of peace and friendship to regional countries.
