Rouhani: Nuclear Talks at Sensitive Stage

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said the nuclear negotiations between Iran and the Group 5+1 were presently at a sensitive stage, Al-Alam News Network reports.

He made the remarks while talking to reporters upon his arrival in Tehran’s Mehrabad Airport on Friday from his visit to Russia to attend the joint summit of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS.

He termed his visit to Russia as very important and said the member states of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS, which collectively accommodate over half of world population, account for 30 percent of the global gross income.

He said he discussed nuclear talks with the Russian and Chinese heads of state during his meetings in Russia.

The President said he also explored ways of promoting bilateral relations with his Russian, Chinese and Afghan counterparts as well as India’s Prime Miniter.

In his meeting with the Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, the President said, he reviewed the process of enhancing relations between the two governments since he became president in Iran in July, 2013 and focused on ways to further expand them in future.

President Rouhani also said that during his meeting with the Indian Prime Minister - which was the first of the kind between the two officials – he discussed the issue of Indian participation in the development project of Iran’s Chabahar port city in southeast of the country as well as other projects in east of Iran.

According to President Rouhani, he reviewed issues of mutual interest as well as bilateral relations with the Chinese president.

President Rouhani also appreciated the performance of Iran’s nuclear negotiations team that had a vigorous presence in the talks even during al-Qadr nights.

President Rouhani arrived in the city of Ufa, Bashkortostan Republic of Russia, on Wednesday night to attend the summit meetings of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS there.

The 2-day meeting started on July 9 and President Rouhani as the ' Special Guest' delivering speech at BRICS summit. On the second day of the meeting, too, the Iranian President delivered another speech at the SCO summit meeting.

Bilateral meetings and talks with a number of heads of member-states of BRICS and SCO were on his agenda.

BRICS comprises of countries such as Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

In addition to these two events, Eurasia Summit was also held in Ufa.
