“I want to reassure you that Russia will do everything in its power, like before, so that the agreement, satisfying the Iranian side, ensuring Iran’s rights in the nuclear sphere is reached,” Sergei Ryabkov said on Saturday.

“And it is important that now we are close to a solution which would relieve the Iranian people, the Iranian state from this sanctions pressure,” he said.

“I do not think there is a threat that anti-Iran or anti-Russia forces in the US Congress would resort to procedural tricks or use provisions of this legislation to torpedo the agreements,” the top Russian diplomat said.

On May 7, US Senate passed the legislation, which would make it possible for Congress to review and potentially reject a nuclear deal with Iran. The legislation will allow for a 30-day review of any final agreement. During the review period, President Barack Obama would be able to waive those sanctions that were imposed by the US administration. However, the president would have to leave in place sanctions that Congress had previously drafted.
