A group calling itself the “hacking division” of ISIL said late on Friday that it had gained access to the information by hacking into military servers, databases and emails.
The list consists of names and photos along with some of the addresses and military ranks.
Pentagon has not yet verified the validity of the message but the families of those mentioned in the list have already been notified.
"I can't confirm the validity of the information, but we are looking into it," said a Pentagon official, adding, most of the information could be found in public records and on social media.
The online document claims all those mentioned have taken part in operations against the Takfiri group, calling on "brothers residing in America" to kill them.
Another unnamed US official was quted by news outlets as saying that names appeared to have been drawn from personnel mentioned in news articles about the US-led coalition airstrikes against ISIL in Syria and Iraq, where the group controls large swathes of land.
Washington and some of its allies have been conducting airstrikes against ISIL in Iraq and Syria since last year but have done little to stop the terrorists so far.
