Iraqi forces repelled an attack by the ISIL Takfiri group in Umm Qasr Port, South of Basra, killing and injuring a large number of terrorists, an army official said.

"The security forces thwarted a rocket attack involving four Katyusha rockets found just 500 meters from the port," Chairman of Basra Security Committee Jabbar Hassan al-Saadi said.

"Two Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) found near an Iraqi vessel docking at the port were successfully dismantled and the rockets removed from their launchers," he added.

Members of the Iraqi Navy take part in tactical training on October 21, 2014, in the mainly Shiite southern city of Basra. The Iraqi navy is divided into two groups, the first takes part in fighting against Islamic State (IS) militant group in Anbar, and the second is in charge of security of vital ports in Umm Qasr and Khor al Zubair.
