The Syrian military sources rejected the western media reports that foreign-backed militant groups have captured two strategic towns in Daraa province in the Southern Parts of the country.

Some western media outlets on Monday reported that the terrorist groups had entered Al-Sheikh Maskin and Nawa towns in Daraa province.

"The reports by some western media outlets that the terrorist groups had captured Nawa and Al-Sheikh Al-Maskin are not true and the Syrian troops have thwarted the attempt by the militants to seize the towns," a Syrian military source told FNA on Tuesday.

The military source noted that the foreign-backed terrorists tried to capture the towns, but the Syrian army thwarted their attempts.

Also in the past 24 hours, the Syrian army struck a heavy blow at the rebels in the areas of al-Rastan, al-Zara, Khatab, al-Mshairfeh and al-Wadihi in Homs, leaving a large number of them dead and wounded.

Elsewhere, the foreign-backed insurgents suffered major losses in Maardabsa, Dadykh, al-Habit, Maaret al-Numan, Basrajah, Koren, al-Arbaeen, Sarmin, Kaminas, Selon and al-Sheikh districts in the countryside of Idlib, and claimed the lives of too many of them.

Meantime, the Syrian army made fresh advances in fighting with foreign-backed Takfiri insurgents in nearby areas of Aleppo province.

The army soldiers stormed the hideouts of the militants in the areas of Haddadin, Aleppo, al-Bab, al-Atareb and Saraqeb in Aleppo province, killing and injuring scores of them.
