Palestinian medics announced the deaths of at least 38 more Gaza residents on Monday, noting that more than 100 people had been killed across the impoverished enclave a day earlier.

More than 70 of the Sunday fatalities were residents of the Shujaiyya district in eastern Gaza. Emergency services spokesman for the Gaza Strip Ashraf al-Qudra said 80 percent of them were “old men, women and children,” adding that at least 400 others were injured in the area.

The Zionist regime began its airstrikes on the besieged enclave on July 8. Last Thursday, thousands of Israeli soldiers launched a ground invasion into the densely-populated strip as well.

More than 3,000 Palestinians have also been injured in the Israeli military strikes.

The Israeli military said on Sunday that 13 Israeli troops were killed in Gaza on the third day of its ground operation, bringing to 18 the number of soldiers killed since Thursday.

Late on Sunday, the Ezzeddin al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, said its fighters had captured an Israeli soldier, identified as Shaul Aron, during Tel Aviv’s ground invasion of the Gaza Strip. Israel has denied the report.

Meanwhile, Palestinian medics have warned of a serious humanitarian crisis in Gaza as hospitals are running out of basic medical supplies.
