"The Palestinian leadership urges the Security Council to quickly issue a clear condemnation of this Israeli aggression and impose a commitment of a mutual ceasefire immediately," Abbas said in a letter to the UN body.

This is while the hawkish Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insisted in a local televised statement on Friday that he refuses to halt the deadly military onslaught against the Palestinian population in Gaza, reiterating that no international pressure could persuade him to end the assault.

Meanwhile, Hamas official Izzat El-Risheq stated in a televised interview with al-Hadath TV that "there are efforts for a ceasefire," but demanded that the Israeli regime must first halt its aggression.

The development comes as Venezuela’s government issued a statement this week to condemn the Israeli aggression against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

The Palestinian death toll climbed to at least 106 people early Saturday, as the occupying regime continued its airstrikes for the fourth consecutive day, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. Overwhelming majority of Palestinian fatalities in Gaza are civilians, according to various press accounts, and include nearly 25 children.
