Palestinian inmates are planning to hold protest rallies in Israeli prisons to show anger towards cancelation of prisoner release, an official from the Palestinian Authority (PA) says.

The plan came as a response to Tel Aviv regime’s decision to scrap a fourth release of prisoners, Ziad Abu Ein, the PA deputy minister for prisoner affairs, said on Friday.

Abu Ein added that the protests would include hunger strikes by the prisoners.

Earlier in the day, hundreds of Palestinian demonstrators clashed with Israeli forces as they were holding a protest rally outside Ofer prison near the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah to voice their outrage at Tel Aviv’s refusal to go ahead with the promised release of the 26 Palestinian inmates.

The prisoners were supposed to be freed as part of US-brokered talks between the PA and the Israeli regime.

The Tel Aviv regime had promised to free the inmates and in exchange, the PA pledged to freeze all moves to seek membership in UN organizations until April 2014.

The Palestinian officials resumed their approach to international agencies after Israel refused to release the prisoners and responded by applying to join 15 world bodies on April 1.

According to Palestinian NGO Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association (Addameer), there were more than 5,000 Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli jails as of January 2014.

The prisoners include 155 administrative detainees, 17 women and 154 children.

Administrative detention is a sort of imprisonment without trial or charge that allows Israel to incarcerate Palestinians for up to six months. The detention order can be renewed for indefinite periods of time.

The Palestinians say the final release was already promised and should not be connected to any other issue. US officials have also said that Israel was expected to carry out the release. The Israeli regime has defied international demands to release Palestinian prisoners and stop building new settlements in West Bank and East al-Quds.
