Ahmad Jarba claimed in a Friday interview with state-funded BBC that the anti-Damascus militants were promised by Western allies to be supplied with heavy weapons during the recent talks in the Swiss city of Geneva.

The 11 core members of the so-called "Friends of Syria" - including the US and Britain - all blamed the Syrian government for the three-year-long bloodshed and ignored atrocities carried out by the foreign-backed insurgents in the war-torn country.

In the interview, conducted at the National Coalition's headquarters in Istanbul, Jarba also admitted he wished the US had gone through with its threat to bomb targets in Syria, saying that if they had, "the conflict would have been much closer to the end."

The time had come, Jarba said, for diplomacy to take second place to changing the balance of power on Syria's battlefields.

The SNC chief also slammed the United States for not going ahead with its military threats against the Syrian government.

The foreign-backed national coalition, along with thousands of foreign mercenaries, has been operating against the Syrian government since March 2011.

An estimated 130,000 people are believed to have been killed over the past three years of turmoil in Syria. Millions have also been displaced due to the crisis.

According to reports, the Western powers and their regional allies -- especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey -- are supporting the militants operating inside Syria.
