During Thursday operations, Syrian troops thwarted an intrusion attempt by armed insurgents from Masaken al-Bohouth towards Talet Barakat in Aleppo city, killing and injuring numerous militant elements, state news agency SANA reported, citing a military source.
According to the report, army units also foiled a bid by another armed group to infiltrate into the area surrounding al-Khusrufiyeh Mosque in the old city of Aleppo, inflicting considerable losses on the foreign-backed group.
Government forces further inflicted heavy losses on insurgent elements in a series of mop-up operations against their hideouts and staging areas in towns and villages surrounding Aleppo city as well as areas around the city’s central prison and other suburban locations of the city.
The report also indicates that more militants were eliminated in the Talbiseh countryside of the city of Homs due to the explosion of a rocket shell while they were attempting to launch rockets at neighboring villages.
Also in Homs, five armed militants surrendered to authorities and turned over their weapons.
During army operations on Tuesday and Wednesday in the outskirts of Homs, near the towns of al-hosn and al-Zara, 85 other militants surrendered to Syrian forces with all their weaponry, the report added.
