The camp, which is home to thousands of Palestinian refugees, has come under attack in recent days from al-Qaeda’s al-Nusra Front from one side and ISIL from another, both violating a peace deal which could only last for nearly two months.
In January, Palestinian factions negotiated a deal under which the UNRWA was able to begin distributing some food aid to remaining residents, and around 1,500 civilians were evacuated.
Daily fighting has been reported between Palestinian fighters and al-Nusra radical militants which have left several people dead, including Palestinians, but has deterred al-Nusra improvement in the camp.
However the ISIL has reportedly attacked other parts of the massive camp and abducted 30 Palestinians for either supporting the Syrian government or siding with al-Nusra Front.
There are also reports of 21 people getting executed by the ISIL I the past couple of days, for same reasons, Lebanese al-Akhbar newspaper wrote in a report.
Recently the ISIL issued a statement in the camp in which it dubbed resident Palestinians as ‘infidels’ and slammed them for cooperating with the government for reaching a ceasefire that could help entrance of humanitarian aides inside the camp.
Yarmouk camp, located in Damascus, was once home to some 150,000 Palestinians, as well as Syrian residents.
Now an estimated 18,000 Palestinians remain in the camp, much of which has been destroyed in the foreign-charged insurgency in Syria which has been going on for nearly three years.
