The Israeli military has claimed discovery of the remains of two Katyusha rockets that it says have been launched into the occupied Golan Heights.

The rockets reportedly landed in the Israeli-occupied areas just after midnight on Saturday.

Israeli military sources further speculated that the rockets had been launched from either Syria or Lebanon.

However, they said it would be more likely that the rockets were fired as a result of the fighting between foreign-backed insurgents and government forces in Syria.

Earlier this week, the Israeli regime replaced a military division, the 210th Regional Bashan Division, on the Golan Heights, which had been deployed into the occupied territory for 40 years.

Security sources say the Israeli military is also working on ways to intrude into the Syrian territory.

Israel captured the Golan Heights during the Six-Day War of 1967, when it also took control of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

It annexed the Golan Heights in 1981, although the move was never recognized by the international community and was regarded as a violation of international law.

The UN Security Council has rejected the de facto annexation in Resolution 497.
