Speaking to reporters in Ankara on Saturday, Gul said from Iran’s perspective there are certain good opportunities to settle the Syrian conflict, stressing the need for Tehran-Ankara cooperation on the key regional issue.
Gul further added that during a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani on the sidelines of the 68th annual session of the UN General Assembly in New York on September 25, 2013, he had underscored the need for collaborations between the two on the Syrian issue.
Iran and Turkey’s friendly cooperation on the Syria crisis will prepare the ground for offering proposals on the Syria conflict to the international community for further consideration, Gul pointed out.
Syria has been gripped by a destructive, foreign-backed crisis since 2011. According to reports, the Western powers and their regional allies -- especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey -- are supporting the militants operating inside the country.
According to the United Nations, more than 100,000 people have been killed and millions displaced due to the turmoil that has gripped Syria for over two years.
