Zarif, who is in Geneva for nuclear talks with six major world powers, met with Brahimi on Friday and discussed the latest regional and international developments concerning the Syria crisis.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Zarif said the list of countries which would be invited to the Geneva II conference on Syria has not been finalized yet.
The Iranian minister added that he agreed with Brahimi to continue with interaction on the Syrian issue.
The Geneva II conference is seen as a chance to find a political solution to the Syrian conflict. The event has been delayed for months.
Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since 2011. According to reports, the Western powers and their regional allies -- especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey -- are supporting the militants operating inside Syria.
According to the UN, more than 100,000 people have been killed and a total of 7.8 million others displaced due to the violence.
